Green Light on Transport Spending

Investment in the West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund has been given the go ahead at the most recent West Yorkshire Combined Authority meeting. The funding, totalling £180 million is great news for the area and will cover a number of different schemes across the region.

Projects include rail infrastructure development, with Bradford Forster Square Station set to become a first-class facility which will act as a gateway to the city. Also included in the plans are the introduction of a new station at Leeds Bradford Airport as well as preparing a business case for a new station in Elland.

The scheme also covers an expansion of Park and Ride provision at several West Yorkshire rail stations. Places where the number of spaces will be increased include Guisley, Outwood, Moorthorpe, Apperley Bridge and Knottingley. In addition, the A629 Halifax to Huddersfield Corridor improvement scheme is also part of the programme of investment.

The leader of Bradford Council, Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe, explained the value of the developments stating: “The transport schemes which the Investment Committee has supported have been designed to achieve the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and its partners’ aims of encouraging sustainable economic growth that sees more local people in high quality jobs that they can access easily.”
