Top Garden trends for 2017

Despite the often-dreary weather, gardening is one of the UK’s favourite past times with many home owners enjoying spending time outdoors. Whether you are a keen vegetable grower, more of a potterer or a backyard BBQ king, there are several garden trends you should know about for 2017:

  1. Natural materials are back

This year, the natural look is back, with organic charm and heritage features being favoured over more contemporary styles. Rock gardens are making a return as are stone pathways over the lawn. Timber flower beds and raised vegetable beds are also popular with old railway bunkers being the material of choice to build these out of.

  1. Adult play areas are on the rise

Traditionally, the garden was the children’s play zone. Nowadays, the space is being used for adult leisure time too. There has been an increase in the amount of decking and seating areas being installed as well as dedicated games areas for duels in games such as boules. Hammocks are also becoming a more common feature!

  1. New technology is being utilised

Perhaps unsurprisingly technology now has a place in the garden too. Smartphone apps are allowing people to look after their gardens even whilst they’re away. For example it’s possible to control water sprinklers or irrigation systems from afar meaning the garden can be looked after wherever you are and whatever the weather.
